Wine Experience

The team tastes wines blind and plays for points.

What it looks like

A minute of Wine Experience: the tasting benches, the teams composing their own label.

What it is

Three roads around wine. In the Harvest you go out to a working vineyard to pick and press the grapes. In The Alchemist you compose a blend of your own, learning how grape varieties combine and where whites, reds and rosés really come from. In Wine Games, the most active of our wine formats, teams race each other on quizzes, games and challenges about wine, its regions and its oddities, and nobody stays seated. We run it in licensed venues we work with.

Participants tasting and blending wine during a Wine Experience

Are you ready to put your senses on trial? There are moments in a company’s year when people come back from a break and need something to get them working together again. What helps then is an activity that entertains and makes the team work as one at the same time.

Harvest time

Have you ever seen with your own eyes how grapes get picked? Ever wanted to take part in the pressing? Do you know the processes that turn a bunch of grapes into wine? The harvest is a short season and a busy one, and it’s the moment this activity exists for.

Harvest

For this one we go out to a working vineyard with the partners we run it with, to look at the techniques and the secrets behind real wine. It’s a day in the open air, with the landscape in front of you and the pleasure of being outside among things that grow. The timings of natural processes have nothing to do with the timings of a working week. Getting back in touch with that, with yourself and with your colleagues, improves how a team understands itself and leaves behind a calmer way of working that lasts well past the day.

There’s no shortage of enjoyment either, because the setting is a village festival: tastings, contests, stories and challenges that nobody takes too seriously.

The Alchemist

Once grapes are picked and pressed, the wine has to be made and matured, and that’s where it gets decided whether it will be white, red or rosé. Do you think red wine comes from red grapes and the other way round? Wrong. That and other secrets get revealed here, along with a good many facts known to very few.

In The Alchemist you find out the rules for combining grape varieties and the recipes behind the most famous wines. Like genuine alchemists we work out the recipe for our own wine, unique and unrepeatable. You get the thrill of knowing the chemistry of wine, and of tasting it.

Wine pairings are worth going into as well. Could you say which foods should be tasted with red and which with white? Beyond red meat and fish there’s a great deal more to know.

Wine Games

Wine Games moves. There’s wine, and tasting it matters, though nobody sits and listens to a lecture. It’s the most dynamic of our cooking formats: through quizzes, games and challenges we find out a great deal about wine, and the teams race each other for points.

The rounds need quick thinking and quick legs. Teams compete for points and for the win, and it brings the best out of people. The day after, what’s remembered is a group that had to decide fast, together, on almost no information.

Here’s how it went when we tried this activity with a large international company:

And at the end, a toast. Wine Games works in any season and suits a corporate dinner or a celebration of another kind: run during the dinner or after it, it finishes with a glass in everyone’s hand.

When what surfaces deserves an afterwards

An activity surfaces a great deal about how a team communicates, decides and works together, and sometimes what surfaces deserves more time, more depth and a method. That is where a Team Coaching path can begin: a different road, to be taken only if it is needed, to turn what the day made visible into a new way of working together.
