Sushi Making
The team makes sushi guided by a master.
What it looks like
A video says in thirty seconds what a page explains in a thousand words: how loud it gets, how much laughing there is, what the hands are doing.
What it is
Participants explore the flavours and the traditions of Japanese cuisine. A sushi master guides the teams: a short warm-up on the traditions and the techniques, then the practical part, with all the tools and the ingredients provided. At the end everyone sits down and eats what came out.
Becoming masters of raw fish
Sushi is widely thought of as Japanese, and few people know it was already popular in China before it reached Japan. Its origins go back to the fourth century AD.
During the activity people learn not only how to make sushi but the history and the cultural weight of the craft. Why is sushi considered Japanese? What does the word actually mean? How many years does it take to become a sushi master? Can a woman become one? All of those get answered during the event.
A leap east
Making good sushi means attention to every detail: precision in the preparation, care in choosing the ingredients, patience in every step. The result can be genuinely remarkable, and so can what the exercise shows about a team.
Everyone gets the tools and the ingredients they need to start, guided by our sushi master. A mixture of vivid colours and unfamiliar flavours, a good atmosphere and a great deal of enjoyment are the secret of the format.
What it gives a team
Under the guidance of our trainers, people discover that making sushi is a practical and enjoyable way to build relationships with colleagues, to improve how time gets managed and how work flows between people, and to coordinate under a standard that doesn’t forgive being rushed.
Not only rice and raw fish
As the final result, everyone eats the sushi they made together and gets to know the rest of the team a little better. The day after, what stays is the memory of a standard everyone had to hold at the same time.

An activity surfaces a great deal about how a team communicates, decides and works together, and sometimes what surfaces deserves more time, more depth and a method.
