Sailing
The team sails a yacht, each person with their own role.
What it looks like
A video says in thirty seconds what a page explains in a thousand words: how loud it gets, how much laughing there is, what the hands are doing.
What it is
The group splits into crews of six, each with a skipper on board for the whole day. Every person gets a precise role in the manoeuvres. Between one crew and another there are timed rounds: hoisting the sails, rigging them, a course to sail. We run it with the Dubai Offshore Sailing Club.

Running a regatta to test how a team works? It happens, and often. Sailing gives your team an experience with adrenaline in it and plenty of training content, competitive and cooperative at the same time.
Why choose a sailing team building?
Out on the water
Team Sailing takes place at sea on a yacht. A boat is a new environment, outside the daily routine, free of the usual conditioning and demanding both physically and mentally. That makes it possible to measure and to train a team’s qualities without the constraints of the office. The people taking part face challenges unlike the ones at work, and bring out their best communication and problem solving. By the end of the adventure their interpersonal communication has improved and the leadership in the group has shown itself.
Don’t worry about accidents: everyone is given a life jacket.
The challenges
How does the activity run? From the start the team is divided into groups of six, plus a skipper who stays with each group for the whole day. Every person is given a specific role within the crew, mirroring the division of roles inside a working team. The environment is completely different from the company’s, but the way people interact is the same. That’s what lets the group work on how the team functions, on problem solving and on the other issues they recognise from work.
The day at sea is made more absorbing by a series of challenges between the crews: timed rounds for hoisting the sails, for rigging the spinnaker and for recovering crew members overboard; navigation rounds; first-aid simulations.
WHAT SAILING GIVES A TEAM
When what surfaces deserves an afterwards
An activity surfaces a great deal about how a team communicates, decides and works together, and sometimes what surfaces deserves more time, more depth and a method. That is where a Team Coaching path can begin: a different road, to be taken only if it is needed, to turn what the day made visible into a new way of working together.
